Denver County fatal traffic crashes, 2023 FARS census

Archived copies of this hostname described Denver accident-attorney intake: crash compensation process, insurance negotiation, and the difference between a local collision file and a later civil claim. That heritage is a city-level injury practice, not a national drug or device docket.

Before any claim language, this page stays inside a public census. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) counts fatal motor-vehicle crashes. It is not a complete injury census, and it is not a valuation of any Denver case.

What the 2023 census shows for Denver County

In calendar year 2023, FARS coded 71 fatal crashes to Denver County, with 76 deaths in those crashes. Colorado statewide in the same file has 666 fatal crashes and 720 deaths. Denver County is 10.7 percent of Colorado fatal crashes in this census. The 2023 accident file no longer carries a crash-level alcohol flag; this briefing therefore does not publish an alcohol percentage.

Month of crash, Denver County only

The month table is a count of fatal crashes, not deaths. A single crash can involve more than one death, so month totals will not necessarily equal the death column above. Empty months mean FARS stored no Denver County fatal crash with that month code, not that roads were unused.

How this slice was cut

The source file is the NHTSA FARS 2023 National CSV release. This page keeps accident-level rows whose state is Colorado and whose county codes to Denver (FIPS 08031). Person-level and vehicle-level files were not merged. Non-fatal injury crashes, property-damage crashes, and crashes that FARS never received from the state are absent by design.

Denver County in FARS is FIPS 08031 (City and County of Denver). Crashes just outside the county line, including suburban Arapahoe or Adams records, are excluded even when the trauma center is in Denver. ST_CASE identifiers stay in the local slice JSON for audit; they are not listed here because a public page that dumps case IDs does not help a reader and can look like a scrape dump.

What this page is not

This is not a ranking of intersections, not a complete count of people hurt, and not a statute-of-limitations calculator. FARS is a fatal-crash census. Local engineering files, hospital discharge data, and civil dockets answer different questions. If a later article on this host returns to crash-process explainers, it should stay inside Denver collision practice and should not import national pharmaceutical dockets onto this county table.
